Fire at retirement community forces evacuation

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — A three alarm fire prompted a mass evacuation at the Forest Pines Assisted Living Facility Retirement Community off Forest Drive. The Columbia Fire Department got the call around 1:20 Wednesday morning. All of the firefighters have been accounted for. So have the residents and the employees. The 80 residents living in the facility are now displaced. We have learned eight residents have been transported to the hospital. Early estimated damage cost is around one million dollars. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, but ABC Columbia will continue to follow this story and keep you updated as more information becomes available.
