Columbia City Council discusses funding expensive projects
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Columbia City Council is discussing plans for multiple expensive building projects, including $12 million for a sports complex and $8.5 million in improvements at two public housing complexes.
The State of Columbia reports (http://bit.ly/1QFobAz ) the projects are not yet funded but could be, at least partially, if a surplus of money becomes available at the end of the budget year on June 30.
The city’s Finlay Park could be given $15 million in long-awaited improvements and new amenities if and when the money becomes available.
On Tuesday, city staff said they have prioritized a number of projects identified by staffers and council members, but that it could take years and possibly multiple funding sources to pay for everything.
