Elgin Police Officer Charged with Domestic Violence

Elgin, S.C. (WOLO)–Kerhsaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews says Monday afternoon Douglas Barton, an Elgin police officer, was arrested and charged with 2nd degree domestic violence. Investigators say Barton held a pillow over a woman’s face, held her by the throat, and struck her in the face. According to Matthews, the woman was able to escape and called law enforcement from a neighbor’s residence. Matthews says Elgin Police Chief Harold Brown was notified of the arrest and suspended Barton.
