Columbia , S.C. (WOLO) — On Monday, Presidential hopeful Marco Rubio visited the midlands to file for the first-in-the-South primary. He is the first Republican candidate to register for his name to officially be placed on the ballot. The Florida Senator kicked off a two day campaign trip to the Palmetto State with the stop at the Republican Headquarters. He touched on his campaign agenda which focuses on “A New American Century.” He discussed key issues including energy and the environment as well as student debt. “We can not continue to graduate people with a mountain of debt unable to find a job to pay the debt,” said Senator Rubio. Senator Rubio is one of many in the crowded Republican field. He said the nation needs a Republican candidate who will stand for a strong national defense and economic upward mobility. While he did not wish to comment on the politics of each candidate, he didn’t miss the opportunity to poke fun at the dispute between Donald Trump and Lindsey Graham. “Well, why don’t I give out his new number,” joked Rubio. Senator Rubio made his way to the Upstate Monday evening for a meet and greet. On Tuesday he plans to attend a forum on national security and US foreign policy.
