Michael Roth Back In The Big Leagues

Gamecock great Michael Roth is back in the big leagues. He’s hoping his third year will be the charm. Tuesday the Cleveland Indians promoted Roth from AAA Columbus where the southpaw was 7-6 on the season with a 4.16 ERA in 19 starts. Roth signed a minor league deal with Cleveland in the offseason after clearing waivers with the Los Angeles Angels. He went 2-1 with a 7.79 ERA in 22 appearances combined for the Angels in 2013 and 2014. Roth was drafted by the Angels in the 9th round of the 2012 draft. The Indians picked Roth in the 31st round in 2011. Roth holds multiple USC pitching records. The Upstate native went 26-6 with a 1.91 ERA in his Carolina career, helping the Gamecocks win back-to-back national championships in 2010 and 2011 and get to the College World Series final series again in 2012. Cleveland is currently on a 5-game losing streak and trying to avoid its first 8-game home losing streak since 1975. The Indians host the Kansas City Royals Tuesday night at 7:10 p.m.
