Spurrier Reacts to Preseason Rankings

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Steve Spurrier didn’t seem too concerned that his team was left out of USA Today’s preseason poll released Thursday. “Preseason? We weren’t ranked were we?” Spurrier asked jokingly. “We are an unknown team.” Spurrier attended the South Carolina Coaches for Charity event Thursday in Columbia, an annual dinner event that raises money for local charities. “The only guy on the all-conference team was Pharoh (Cooper),” Spurrier added. “Man that’s an all-time low. But that’s okay. We got a lot of new players, and I think we’re ready for new players after some performances last year.” Spurrier and the Gamecocks open with North Carolina in Charlotte on September 3.
