Lexington man dies after 400ft fall from Looking Glass Rock in NC

BREVARD, N.C. (AP) – Emergency officials say a South Carolina man died after hiking to the top of Looking Glass Rock in North Carolina and falling from the sheer cliffs. The Transylvania County Rescue Squad told the Asheville Citizen-Times hat 68-year-old Harold Wiggins of Lexington, South Carolina, had hiked with his wife and son to the top of the 3,970-foot-high peak in Pisgah National Forest on Saturday afternoon. Brian Kreigsman of the rescue squad says the victim’s family walked around and noticed Wiggins wasn’t there. He says they came down and reported him missing. Rescuers retrieved the body Sunday morning after a hiker discovered it. Kreigsman says Wiggins may have fallen about 400 feet. Copyright 2015 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
