Officials: Florida man, 86, drowns in South Carolina lake
IVA, S.C. (AP) — Officials say an 86-year-old Florida man has drowned in an Anderson County lake.
Multiple media outlets reported (http://bit.ly/1JY4Uav ) that Pablo Lopez Garcia, of Newberry, Florida, died Tuesday afternoon.
Deputy Coroner Don McCown says Garcia was swimming in Lake Secession with a pool noodle beside his wife’s kayak when he went under the water around 1 p.m.
Authorities say divers recovered his body in the lake about an hour later. McCown says his body was about 30 feet from a dock in an area of the lake that is about 35 feet deep.
McCown says Lopez and his wife, Joyce Leigh Tentor, were halfway through a six-week vacation in a rental home on the lake.
McCown says Garcia’s death will be classified as an accidental drowning.
