COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Some 10,000 people came out to see politicians including U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, Rick Perry and U.S. Senator Tim Scott, speak at the “We Stand with God Pro-Family Rally” Saturday. Cruz, Perry and Scott joined pastors from across the state to talk about marriage and religious liberty. Organizers planned the event after the U.S. Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage. They say it’s time Christians stand up for their faith. Cruz focused on three points during his speech; life, marriage, and faith. “Let me tell you right now,” he says. “Innocent life should not be treated as a business transaction.” Cruz says that his first mission as president would be ordering a Department of Justice investigation of Planned Parenthood. He says wedlock was not ordained by any law in this country. “Marriage was ordained by God almighty,” Cruz says. Former Texas Governor Perry says the Supreme Court’s overreach, in legalizing same-sex marriage nationwide, is an extension of government as a whole. “We see a Supreme Court that is out of control,” Perry says. “We see fear in our churches and our religious schools, because we have a government that is out of control.” A 600 person choir performed on the State House steps as part of the three-hour long gathering. Perry reminded Christians of America’s origin, what he sees as a harmonious union of religion and liberty. “Are you willing to rise up and stand for God and to go forward and deliver the principles and the values this country were based upon?” Perry asked. Thousands of South Carolinians, and those beyond the state’s borders, cheered in reply to say they’re ready.
