Report: Nine people killed on SC roadways over the weekend
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announced a preliminary number of nine people killed on South Carolina roadways from August 28, at 6:00 p.m. until , August 30, at midnight. As of August 30, 612 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 514 highway deaths during the same time period in 2014. Of the 412 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2015, 209 were not wearing seat belts. Through midnight August 30, 67 pedestrians have died compared to 56 in 2014; 93 motorcyclists have died compared to 63 in 2014; and 12 bicyclist has died compared to 8 in 2014 on state roads and highways. The numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of midnight August 30, 2015.
