Border War: UNC Leads USC, 13-10 at Halftime

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Tar Heels and the Gamecocks kicked off the 2015 college football season in Charlotte Thursday night. At the half, UNC leads USC 13-10. First-year USC starting quarterback Connor Mitch went 5-14 for 76 yards. He threw one touchdown pass to Pharoh Cooper on the first play of the second quarter to tie the game 7-7. “He’s (Mitch) doing okay,” said Spurrier to ESPN at halftime. “North Carolina is just outplaying us and out-coaching us. We gotta force a punt before the game’s over and mix it up offensively.” Both Mitch and Cooper cramped up in the first half and missed little playing time. Both are expected to play in the second half. Carolina Kicker Elliott Fry missed a 57-yard field goal just before halftime that would have tied the game. Fry is 1-2 in the game, after making a 25-yard field goal earlier in the second quarter. #Gamecocks stats: Total yards: 216 Rushing yards: 122 1st downs: 13 Redzone efficiency: 2-2 Penalties (yards): 4 (30)
