No charges in Aiken Halloween gun case

AIKEN, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say they aren’t charging the guardian of a 10-year-old Aiken trick-or-treater who pulled a 9-mm handgun on a woman who joked she’d steal his candy on Halloween.

The Aiken Standard reported Wednesday (http://bit.ly/tZivX4) that police are working on the case with local prosecutors and the Department of Social Services but aren’t charging anyone with a crime.

A 28-year-old woman told police she recognized some youngsters on Halloween night and joked she’d take their candy. Police say a 10-year-old in the group said no and pointed the handgun at her.

Police the gun wasn’t loaded but the boy had ammunition. The boy’s 10-year-old brother told officials he also had a gun, and both weapons were recovered by police.

Police say the boys got them from their grandfather without his permission.
