Conway farm celebrating fall the old-fashioned way

CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — A farm near Conway is offering South Carolinians a chance to learn about old-fashioned living.

Staffers at the L.W. Paul Living History Farm on Saturday are hosting demonstrations on how to make syrup from sugar cane grown there on site. Minnie the mule is also demonstrating traditional cane grinding.

Officials from the farm say old-fashioned syrup making was a big part of fall life in the early 20th century, with communities cooking juice down into sweet cane syrup each fall.

The daylong event is free and open to the public. There are other demonstrations on lye soap making, corn grinding and butter making.
