SC heritage tourism, economics conference topic
CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — Rural economic development and developing historical attractions are being discussed this week in Clemson during a meeting sponsored by the South Carolina National Heritage Corridor.
The three-day meeting that opens Monday includes sessions on everything from creating livable communities to developing environmental tourism and the historical resources of the area. There will also be a session on green construction so that new development won’t damage the environment.
The corridor stretches 240 miles along the western edge of the state from the mountains of Oconee County to the Atlantic Ocean off Charleston County. The corridor was created in 1996 to promote heritage tourism and economic redevelopment in the 17-county region.
