Medal of Honor recipients at Citadel discussion
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — The Citadel is hosting a public discussion with two recipients of the nation’s highest military award, the Medal of Honor.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reports that the event is scheduled for Tuesday night in the Holliday Alumni Center.
Bruce ‘Snake’ Crandall flew 22 missions in an unarmed helicopter into enemy fire to transport ammunition and rescue the wounded in the Battle of Ia Drang in Vietnam.
Sal Giunta charged into the middle of a barrage of gunfire to save the lives of men in his squad after coming under attack by Afghan insurgents, shooting two insurgents who were trying to carry away a U.S. soldier. In 2010, he became the first living service member from the wars in Afghanistan or Iraq to receive the Medal of Honor.
