New model shows new COVID-19 variants may cause thousands of more deaths in the U.S.

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– A university model is saying the new COVID-19 variations may cause thousands of more deaths in the United States. On Thursday, the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington released their model which predicts 85,000 more people could die by May 1 from the U.K. and South African variants.

Health experts say the variants are likely to worsen the spread of COVID-19 across the nation.
