Investigators to reopen cold case slaying in SC
CAYCE, S.C. (AP) — Investigators say they plan to reopen the probe into who killed a mother of two during a robbery 10 years ago.
Charlie McNair is the chief of the Cayce police department. He tells The State newspaper (http://bit.ly/vtHkXY ) that the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division will aid in the investigation.
Thirty-seven-year-old Merry Shivers was working part-time at the Cayce Piggly Wiggly in 2001, trying to earn some extra money so she could buy her children Christmas gifts. She was shot and killed by robbers at her cash register.
Three men were arrested and charged about five weeks after the slaying, but officials said there wasn’t enough evidence to bring the men to trial.
The police chief would not comment to the newspaper about possible suspects.
