Former SC governor West topic of lecture, signing

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Former South Carolina governor and ambassador John West is the topic of a lecture and book signing at The Citadel.

The Tuesday talk is being given by Philip Grose, a former member of West’s staff and now a research associate at the University of South Carolina.

Grose has written a new biography of West entitled “Looking for Utopia.”

West served as governor during the early 1970s after a stint as lieutenant governor. He later served as U.S. ambassador to Saudi Arabia. West died in 2001.
