Colleton County man gets 12 years in slaying
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — A Colleton County man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after entering a plea in a shooting death at an Edisto Island nightclub.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reported (http://bit.ly/rrSalO) 25-year-old Kendrell Brown of Jacksonboro entered an Alford plea Wednesday to charges of voluntary manslaughter.
An Alford plea does not admit guilt but concedes there is enough evidence for a conviction.
Twenty-nine-year-old Kavares Brown was shot to death outside an Edisto Island roadhouse in June of last year.
The men are not related.
Kendrell Brown had been charged with murder. Prosecutors dropped murder charges against two other men, including Brown’s brother, Craig, and Arthur Lee Moultrie.
Witnesses said three men jumped from a car and opened fire on a crowd outside the club, killing Kavares Brown.
