GOP Debate in SC to Go on without Volleyballs

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) – The Republican presidential candidates will have to dodge barbs, but not volleyballs, when they meet in a debate next month on the South Carolina coast. The South Carolina Republican Party says its debate will be held on Jan. 16 at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. There had been confusion about the event announced earlier this year because a local volleyball tournament had been set for the convention center on the same date. But organizers of the tournament now say the 114 teams from the Carolinas will play at other sites in Myrtle Beach and in Florence. The GOP debate takes place five days before South Carolina’s Jan. 21 GOP presidential primary, the first in the South.
