Death of SC man struck multiple times probed

SHELDON, S.C. (AP) — Authorities are trying to identify a pedestrian who may have been struck five times along U.S. 17 in Beaufort County.

The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports (http://bit.ly/sey9pU ) the man died Friday night near the intersection with U.S. 21 north from Beaufort.

The sheriff’s office says the man was in his early 20s and had no identifying scars or tattoos.

Coroner Ed Allen says the man may have been struck by as many as five vehicles. He says after a car struck the man, the driver pulled over to call 911 and he was struck again.

The body was sent to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston for an autopsy. There has been no missing person report about the victim.
