2 men arrested in 2005 Horry County killing

CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — Horry County police say they have made two arrests in the shooting death of a man more than six years ago.

Authorities said Thursday that an anonymous tip a few months ago led them to reopen the investigation into the killing of 66-year-old Sheldon Watts, who was found shot to death in his backyard in May 2005.

Investigators did not detail the new evidence, but say the two suspects charged with murder were already in custody.

Police say 46-year-old Willie Arthur was in the Horry County jail awaiting trial on a criminal domestic violence charge, while 24-year-old Robert Evans is in state prison serving a 30-month sentence for attempted armed robbery.

It wasn’t clear if either man had an attorney on the new charges.
