SC State students receiving military commissions

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) — Members of the Bulldog Battalion at South Carolina State University are being commissioned during a formal ceremony.
The Orangeburg school’s Army ROTC program is known as the Bulldog Battalion and has about 100 students enrolled each year. Eight students are scheduled to receive their commissions as second lieutenants on Friday.
The SC State program is one of the largest suppliers of minority officers to the nation’s armed forces.
Army Col. Joe L. Hart will address the students. Hart is an Orangeburg native and a 1988 graduate of South Carolina State. He now serves as director of administration and logistics with the Department of Defense Inspector General.
