Mother gets probation in fire deaths of 2 kids
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — A North Charleston mother has been sentenced to probation in the deaths of two of her children who died in a mobile home fire two years ago.
Amy Robinson could have faced 30 years in prison if she had been convicted of homicide by child abuse. But she pleaded guilty Thursday to lesser charges of involuntary manslaughter and illegal conduct toward a child.
Her attorney said before the sentencing that no judge could punish Robinson more than she punishes herself every day. Robinson was sentenced to three years of probation on the charges.
Investigators had said that the 29-year-old mother was not at home at the time of the fire. Defense attorneys said she was there, but was sleeping in another part of the home.
