Transportation Center Progress at SC State

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) _ South Carolina State University has finished the first building at its transportation research center after years of delay. The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg reported the Transit Research Building of the James E. Clyburn center will be ready for graduate students and two researchers to start work next month. Executive Director Charles Wright says the initial work is to match energy and transportation in biofuel assessments. The facility was announced 13 years ago, named for South Carolina’s first black congressman since Reconstruction and designed to do research and training in fields including mass transit and traffic engineering. School officials said in September they had resolved most of the issues raised by the Legislative Audit Council in studying why the project has been delayed. ___ Information from: The Times & Democrat
