Police: $700,000 in insurance for 4 slain in SC

PICKENS, S.C. (AP) — A Pickens County detective says a woman charged with killing four members of her family had $700,000 worth of life insurance policies taken out on the victims.

Detective James Taylor testified Monday in a preliminary hearing for Susan Hendricks. A judge ruled after the hearing that there was enough evidence to send the four charges of murder against Hendricks to a grand jury.

Hendricks was arrested about a week after two of her sons, her ex-husband and her stepmother were found shot to death in Liberty in October.

Taylor says gunshot residue was found all over Hendricks’ clothes, while none was on the son she tried to frame by putting the gun by his bed.

Hendricks’ lawyer says she embraced her son when she found him shot in the bed.
