LEXINGTON, S.C. (AP) _ Lexington police have charged two women with stealing gifts from a holiday collection box intended for needy children. Police say Tonya Smith and Amber Harmon were arrested Tuesday and charged with petit larceny. Both are currently being held at the Lexington Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing. It couldn’t be immediately determined if either has a lawyer. Lexington police say surveillance camera footage shows the women in the lobby of a local hotel on Sunday, taking coloring books, crayons and at least 20 pairs of gloves from a charity collection box. The box had been left by Lexington Interfaith Community Services for guests to donate gifts to children in need. Police Chief Terrence Green says almost all the items have been recovered.
