CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) _ Emails show South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley wanted a federally funded panel to find ways to opt out national health care law requirements. The Post and Courier of Charleston reported Wednesday (http://bit.ly/rFrpfz ) emails obtained under a Freedom of Information request show Haley undermined a process set up as part of implementing the federal law. The emails were obtained from the Department of Health and Human Services. Tony Keck is that agency’s director and helped lead the committee’s work. Haley’s health exchange panel. Keck said Haley didn’t dictate the outcome but did make it clear the state shouldn’t take a role in the federal health care law. The emails include concerns about how the issue would play with the tea party and other conservatives.
