Parole board revokes ex-HomeGold exec’s release

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A South Carolina parole board is revoking the early release granted to an executive involved in one of the state’s biggest bankruptcies because the Attorney General’s office was not notified.

Probation, Parole and Pardon Services director Kela Thomas sent a letter to Attorney General Alan Wilson on Thursday, saying her office made a mistake not letting his lawyers know former HomeGold chief executive Ronnie Sheppard was going before the parole board Wednesday.

No one showed up to oppose Sheppard’s request. He has served four years of a 20-year sentence. He will have a new parole hearing on Jan. 18.

Sheppard’s attorney didn’t return messages Thursday, but told The Greenville News the day before he didn’t think the agency could stop Sheppard’s release.
