Police: 20-year-old Winthrop student raped

ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) — Rock Hill police say a 20-year-old student who was raped near Winthrop University was told by her assailant as he ran away that he had given her AIDS.

Investigators said the rape happened around 2 a.m. Wednesday as the woman was walking to her car.

Police say the suspect put a knife to the woman’s side and made her drive to another parking lot, where he attacked her.

Authorities have not named a suspect.

Winthrop University sent a campus-wide email alert about the incident.
