Hilton Head considers raising airport ticket fees

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — It may cost tourists on commercial flights a bit more to fly into Hilton Head Island in the future.

The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports (http://bit.ly/uMOGWg ) the Beaufort County Airports Board is proposing an additional $4.50 per ticket fee.

The money would be used to repay the county about $1.5 million for building an air traffic control tower, widening the runway, building a new fire station and tree removal at the end of the runway.

The fee is expected to raise nearly $4 million over the next decade.

The fee still must be approved by the county council.
