Haley donates food winnings of ACC football wager

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley is donating the ham she won from Clemson’s Atlantic Coast Conference championship title to Epworth Children’s Home.

Haley spokesman Rob Godfrey says Haley, her husband and children will deliver the Smithfield ham Tuesday afternoon to the residential home in Columbia for children ages 4 to 18 who are victims of abuse and neglect.

Haley won the ham in a bet with Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell over the Dec. 3 title matchup between Clemson and Virginia Tech in Charlotte, N.C.

Haley pledged to send barbecue from Hudson’s Smokehouse if the Hokies won, but No. 21 Clemson routed No. 5 Virginia Tech 38-10 to win its first ACC championship in 20 years.

The two made the wager at the Republican Governors Association Quarterly Meeting.
