Police say no connection in Lincolnville slayings

LINCOLNVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Sheriff’s deputies say there appears to be no link in a pair of shooting deaths near Lincolnville.

Charleston County officials say the body of 25-year-old Marquis Richardson of Johns Island was found beside some railroad tracks near Lincolnville about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. Deputy Coroner Scott Ramsey said Richardson died of a gunshot wound to the head.

Dorchester County authorities say 19-year-old William Michael Cummings Jr. of Moncks Corner was shot in the chest shortly before 9 p.m. Monday near Lincolnville.

Dorchester sheriff’s Maj. John Garrison says there appears to be no connection between the killings. Garrison says investigators have not determined a motive in Cummings’ death.

Charleston sheriff’s Maj. Jim Brady says investigators don’t know why Richardson was in the Lincolnville area when he was shot.
