Woman charged with stealing $2M from doc’s office

IRMO, S.C. (AP) — Police in Irmo say a woman has been arrested for stealing more than $2 million from the doctor’s office where she worked.

Police said Friday 43-year-old Chandra M. Padgett, of Chapin, has been charged with breach of trust with fraudulent intent.

Authorities say Padgett was working as the office manager for Advanced Pain Therapies and stole the money between January 2010 and this month.

They say she used the money to take vacations and pay personal credit card bills.

Padgett is being held in the Richland County jail. If convicted, she could face up to 10 years in prison.

No bond has been set for Padgett, and it wasn’t immediately known if she has an attorney.
