Hearing held on SC No Child Left Behind waiver

BLUFFTON, S.C. (AP) — A hearing is scheduled in the South Carolina Lowcountry on a proposal for the state to opt out of parts of the federal No Child Left Behind program.

The hearing, one of 21 being held around the state, is scheduled for Wednesday at Bluffton High School.

State Education Superintendent Mick Zais says a waiver will reduce the number of regulations on schools.

The South Carolina waiver request must be submitted to the federal Department of Education by Feb. 21.
