Ag department hosts tasting of winning recipes

WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina’s Department of Agriculture is showing off the winners of a recipe contest featuring items from the department’s “Certified SC” program. The department says South Carolina chefs and best-selling cookbook authors Matt Lee and Ted Lee are on hand at the State Farmers Market on Friday to prepare meals with the winners. There is also a tasting of the five grand-prize-winning recipes that include pork and collard greens, and hearty pumpkin, pecan and sweet potato recipes. This winter, the state Department of Agriculture held a contest for people to submit their favorite holiday recipes for a chance to win a holiday meal prepared by the Lee Brothers. Their” The Lee Bros. Southern Cookbook: Stories and Recipes for Southerners and Would-be Southerners” won a James Beard Foundation Award in 2007. (Copyright 2012 by The Associated Press.
