Columbia police say 4 dead in Columbia wreck

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say two men and two women died in a fiery early morning wreck near Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia.

Police Chief Randy Scott said all four people in the vehicle were killed when it ran off George Rogers Boulevard around 5 a.m. Wednesday and crashed into a building and exploded in flames.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts says the bodies were badly burned, and X-rays or DNA will be needed to identify the victims.

Roads in the area were closed for emergency workers at the scene.

The wreck happened near a sharp curve in the road and investigators were trying to determine why the driver lost control of the vehicle.
