SC man suspected in shooting dies in wreck

IVA, S.C. (AP) — Anderson County authorities say a man has died when he crashed his car after he was suspected of shooting and wounding a woman.

Coroner Greg Shore says 33-year-old Christopher Lee Cumber died early Sunday morning.

Authorities say a woman was treated and released from an Anderson hospital after she was wounded. Her name was not released.

Authorities think Cumber shot the woman by accident and fled in a panic just before he crashed.

Highway Patrol Cpl. Bob Beres says Cumber ran off the road about four miles west of Iva and hit a utility pole and several trees. Beres says Cumber was thrown from the vehicle.

Shore says Cumber’s blood alcohol level was almost three times the legal limit of 0.08 percent.
