Atlantic Beach wonders about Myrtle Beach rally

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) — Some Atlantic Beach officials are wondering about plans for a Myrtle Beach-based motorcycle rally that could stretch into the Memorial Day weekend.

Atlantic Beach traditionally holds its Bike Fest over the holiday weekend.

But the Harley-Davidson dealer in Myrtle Beach has proposed holding this year’s event from May 18-28, which would carry it into the Memorial Day weekend.

But some Myrtle Beach businesses that hold events in conjunction with the Harley-Davidson rally say they are sticking with the original plan, which would have the rally starting May 11.

Atlantic Beach Mayor Pro Tem Carolyn Cole says she hopes to get a report on the Bike Fest during a meeting Feb. 6. Cole says the town has not completed plans for this year’s event.

Atlantic Beach made about $80,000 last year.
