SC schools locked down before armed man surrenders
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Two schools in North Charleston were put on lockdown briefly before an armed man who barricaded himself in a house nearby surrendered.
The man barricaded himself for about two hours Monday morning before surrendering to a police SWAT team. There were conflicting reports as to whether the man had several guns or just knives.
Police closed off the neighborhood and both Garrett Academy and Burns Elementary School were on administrative lockdown because of the situation. Classes proceeded as normal but students were not allowed to go outside.
