Summerville man arrested in Orangeburg death

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) — A Summerville man has been arrested in the shooting death of a man in Orangeburg County last week.

The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg reported (http://bit.ly/A5CqBI) that 31-year-old Demetrice Dwight Perry of Summerville is charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Sheriff’s deputies say 50-year-old Silas Williams was shot in the hip during a confrontation in Vance on Jan. 26. Witnesses said the men were arguing when Perry pulled a gun at fired at Williams.

Deputies are looking for a woman accused as an accessory. Investigators say she drove Perry from the scene to Summerville.

It was unclear if Perry has a lawyer yet. A hearing was scheduled Tuesday.
