COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — From Facebook to fighting to find Amir. Sunday, members of the Facebook group “Find Amir Jennings,” will meet at the South Carolina State Museum. There the group will pass out posters and fliers with pictures of Amir. It’s an event they hope will bring awareness to the toddler’s story and it’s an event they hope will help find him. “Because of the child and then we have a mother that’s not speaking, not telling what happened to the child or exactly the last time she saw the child,” says Cindy Casey. For Cindy Casey the story of missing Midlands toddler Amir Jennings, hits close to home. “Because, I have a grandson and I have a granddaughter and I would pray that if something ever happened to my grandkids someone would pick it up and go with it too,” says Casey. Cindy is currently heading up the “Find Amir Jennings,” Facebook page. It’s a page she took over after the page’s maker turned it over. “Within the last 3 days, we’ve gotten over 1,000 followers,” says Casey. This Sunday, the group is hoping to turn those numbers into action by posting fliers with Amir’s picture, throughout Columbia and further. “You know through the interstates, I-20, I-26, 77 to North Carolina, we’re gonna get em’ out,” says Casey. Cindy says the group also has members from neighboring states who want to help. “We’ve got some coming from actually Georgia that are going to take some back with them and post them on their way backc down the interstate,” says Casey . This event comes on the heels of an emotional rollercoaster for the group and many others close to the Amir Jenning’s case. According to the Columbia Police Department Thurday, “misinformation was diseminated to the public in reference to Amir giving false hope that the child had been found.” “The feeling was like Oh my God, we’ve got him, we found him, somebody found him and they dropped him off…then to realize it wasn’t him, I mean my heart sank,” says Casey. But even with the news, Cindy says she and the other members of the Facebook page are not giving up. “We need to bring this child home, we need to find him,” says Casey. If you would like to attend this Sunday’s event you are asked to go the SC State Museum Sunday at 1:00 p.m. you can also visit “Find Amir Jennings” on Facebook for more information.
