ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) _ South Carolina State University President George Cooper announced the school fired several officials, but refused to say who they were. Cooper released a statement Friday saying he decided to make the changes after an internal investigation into policies and practices at the historically black university in Orangeburg. Cooper and other university officials refused to take questions from reporters, but promised a full report would be provided in the future. Cooper says he can’t give out names or other details at this time because it is a personnel matter. Several police cars were parked outside the school’s administration building Friday. Cooper’s statement also said he takes the administrative and financial responsibility of the university seriously.
