Truck driver, 7 students hurt in school bus wreck

SIMPSONVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say one person has been seriously injured and several students taken to the hospital after a morning drunken driving wreck involving a school bus in Greenville County.

Troopers say 42-year-old Michelle Kaufman’s pickup truck collided with the school bus around 8:15 a.m. Wednesday in Simpsonville. She was seriously hurt and airlifted to a hospital.

Authorities say she was charged with driving under the influence. It wasn’t clear if she had an attorney.

Greenville County school district officials say the bus driver and seven students were taken to hospitals.

A second school bus wreck was reported Tuesday morning in Spartanburg. Authorities say five of the 21 students on board were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The bus driver was cited for failure to yield.
