Former Duke researcher leaves SC clinic
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) — A former Duke University medical researcher has left a Myrtle Beach-based clinic after it received concerns from patients.
Dr. Anil Potti (uh-NEEL’ POT’-ee) has left the Coastal Cancer Center following a CBS “60 Minutes” report about questions that were raised about his research at Duke.
Potti came under scrutiny in 2010 after questions were raised about the scientific integrity of his research.
Coastal Cancer Center president Lawrence Holt says officials concluded that the scrutiny of Potti’s work would take away the focus on patient care. Holt says Potti’s last day at the clinic was Tuesday.
He had joined the clinic last March, about four months after resigning from Duke.
There was no telephone listing for Potti in the Myrtle Beach area.
