Dozens of quilts on display on SC coast
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) — About 200 hand-stitched quilts are going on display at the annual Quilt Gala sponsored by the Horry County Museum.
The event is begins Friday and continues Saturday at the Ocean Lakes Campground Recreation Center in Myrtle Beach.
This year’s event features demonstrations, speakers, and a featured quilt as well as a quilt design competition. It’s a long way from the 1994 gala, during which nearly 40 quilts were displayed on the grounds of the county courthouse.
The challenge theme this year is “Lights, Camera, Action” and the quilters have designed quilts based on a favorite play or movie title. Blue ribbon winners get their quilts displayed at the museum next month.
