Principal Grades

BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) _ The principal at Beaufort High School has resigned after an investigation of grade-changing at the school. The school district said Thursday that Dan Durbin’s resignation comes after an investigation that he changed more than 200 grades affecting 33 students. The school district said it had Durbin’s permission to release information about his resignation. The district said when he was questioned, he explained why he changed the grades. He said the students had some low grades and might not graduate.. Durbin says in many cases, students had missing grades in a subject from previous years but already were in higher-level classes. He says he made changes so the students would have enough credits to graduate. He said he wanted to encourage students to get through high school.
