Spartanburg man stabbed to death at apartment

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — No charges have been filed in the stabbing death of a Spartanburg man in an apartment earlier this week.

Police say 56-year-old Donnie Scott Cohen died after being stabbed once in the chest. Cohen was pronounced dead at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center shortly before midnight Monday.

Officers responding to the apartment found Cohen lying in a hall. A suspect who lives in the home was sitting in a chair in the living room.

The suspect told police that Cohen came at him with a knife and he was able to take the knife and stab Cohen.

Officers say alcohol use appears to have been a factor in the stabbing.

Capt. Regina Nowak said Tuesday there is nothing now to contradict the suspect’s claim of self-defense.
