Teller steals from bank, tries to burn it down

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say an Allendale bank teller who stole more than $300,000 from her employer and then tried to burn down the bank when her bosses discovered the money was missing has pleaded guilty.

Federal prosecutors said Wednesday that 40-year-old April Adams faces up to 30 years for embezzlement and five years to 20 years on an arson charge when she is sentenced at a later date.

Investigators say Adams took $323,000 from the Allendale County Bank in May and June and then tried to set a fire inside the bank vault when her managers started to investigate the missing money.
