1 dead, woman in custody in Grand Strand shooting

CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — A man has died and a woman is in custody following a shooting outside a convenience store near Conway.

Horry County Police Sgt. Robert Kegler said the shooting happened late Monday in the parking lot of a convenience store on U.S. 501.

Police say the clerk had just closed the store when he was approached in the parking lot by a man who tried to rob him. There was an exchange of gunfire and the suspect was killed. His name has not been released.

A woman who was in a car and who police say was acting as a lookout has been arrested. She has not been yet been charged.

Police say they don’t expect any charges against the store clerk.
